Off Topic: Jaane Tu... Jaane Na -Youth Ahoy!!

Another day, another movie........and this weekend Jaane Tu...... Ya Jaane Na was the unanimous movie of choice. Being a college going guy, I was able to relate to the movie perfectly. Any product that Aamir lends his name to, is keenly anticipated and be rest assured, high on quality. Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is no exception! After the serious Sarkar Raj (read my review here), I heaved a slight sigh of relief knowing that I could chill out for a while (I'll also add that I had some great friends coming along and I knew that if the movie was bad, atleast I could guppa maro-fy with them. So here goes......

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na marks the acting debut of Aamir Khan’s nephew Imraan Khan. Abbas Tyrewala the writer of Main Hoon Na fame has scripted and directed this fun flick mainly targetted at the youth. So I would seriously suggest all 35+ people to stay away from this movie.

Jaane Tu...... Ya Jaane Na is about Jai Singh Rathore a.k.a Rats (Imraan Khan), a non-violent Rajput and Aditi Mahant a.k.a Meow (Genelia D’Souza), a violent yet cute girl. Aditi feels Jai is a big coward and Jai says her parents should have rinsed her mouth with soap!! They fight like crazy but just cant live without each other. They are almost a made for each other couple, their parents know this, friends know it, but they believe they are just great friends, no more, no less. Does friendship turn into love?? The answer is pretty obvious I guess.....

Scenes that stand out in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

  • Aditi’s parents and Jai’s discussion on the job/engagement.
  • Scene between Amit and Aditi, his confession. Heart warming and brilliant!
  • When Amit takes Aditi into his room. A perfect Bro-sis moment!
  • Scenes between Jai’s mother and his dead father (he talks from a portrait). Absolutely Hilarious!
  • The Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Sociology whatever else between the gang of 6 friends.
  • The scene in which Arbaaz and Sohail meet Imraan in Jail
  • The Climax...... a little too filmy, but it manages to make an impact nonetheless.
Imraan overall makes a solid debut, not once does he go over the top. This actor will surely go a long way. Genelia D’Souza’s expressions alone are worth the price of the ticket. She oozes cuteness and performs well. Manjari Phadnis looks good, acts well. It never seems like there are any characters......just plain people. Guys and gals just out of college......Right from the "I don't need a cellphone coz it invades my privacy" to the "Mera paisa, mera style, mere dost" type. Also look out for Jignesh a.k.a Jiggy who bears an uncanny resemblance to one of my best friends!!

But here's what I felt....... All these new comers were dwarfed onscreen due to the presence of heavyweights like Ratna Pathak, Naseeruddin Shah, Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan and Paresh Rawal. The husband-wife relation between Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak is executed with near perfection. And the antics of the Khan brothers is amazingly funny.

And ofcourse, there's the music: One name- A.R. Rehman.......
get it??

A brilliant set of tracks that get you engrossed right from the second the movie starts and the title appears (along with a fairly nice use of surround sound)

Kabhi Kabhi Aditi is one of the best tracks I've heard all year!!
Pappu Can't Dance and its remix have already become college-blockbusters!! (Read Lyrics Here)
Nazrein Milaao has a nice feel to it.

All in all, the movie never goes aspartame sweet nor does it go karela bitter!!

So, yeah, I had a smile on throughout the movie reminiscing all the movie-relatable stuff that's happened to me in real life. Even if you go alone to this movie, you'll be more than satisfied with it.....but I'd advise you go in a group, so that you can point out when someone onscreen does something that one of your groupies did in real life!! Be sure to watch this movie atleast twice....but avoid if you're above 35.

My Rating: 4 Stars
