*A US space probe landed on the Moon, Surveyor 1, today, well ,a few decades ago, in 1966.The United States lands a spacecraft on the Moon on its first try, but four months behind the Soviet Union.(Pic Below)
*Europe launched its first voyage to another planet, Mars, on this day in 2003. The European Space Agency's Mars Express probe launches from the Baikonur space centre in Kazakhstan.
*UEFA banned English clubs from Europe indefinitely, after the riot at Brussels' Heysel stadium in which 39 people died.
*Italy's Festa della Repubblica (Republic Day), which commemorates the birth of the Repubblica Italiana and the end of the monarchy is observed (guess when..) today.
*Today also marks the 2nd day of the "Samoa's Independence Day Celebration"
